Wen-jie Cheng Terahertz Plasmonic Channel Waveguide based on Metallic Rod Arrays
Wen-jie Cheng,Borwen You,Ja-Yu Lu,

A two dimensional metallic-rod-array (MRA) with a channelized defect is experimentally demonstrated to guide and localize terahertz (THz) field. The localized THz-field is found to be strongly resonant inside the channel space. Using waveguide coupling method, the cross power distribution of resonance mode can be probed.

Pei-Ning Hsu Fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot Interferometer Based on A PDMS Microlens on A Fiber Tip for Displacement Measurement
Pei-Ning Hsu,Chin-Ping Yu,

A fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot interferometer (FFPI) sensor based on a PDMS microlens on a fiber tip was proposed with a simple and low-cost fabrication process. The FFPI was then utilized in displacement sensing. The experimental results indicate that our FFPI sensor possesses a high displacement sensing sensitivity of -24.9 nm/μm.

Shih-Hao Chen Color Shift Keying (CSK) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) Transmission for RGB LED Visible Light Communications using Mobile-Phone Camera
Shih-Hao Chen,Chi-Wai Chow,

Visible light communication (VLC) using color shift keying (CSK) scheme and code division multiple access (CDMA) is demonstrated. CSK scheme uses wide color band to transmit the data avoiding single color light interference. Experiment result shows the proposed system can support multiple access transmission using mobile-phone camera.

Chia-Ping Lin Wavelength Switching of Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser by Using Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and Cavity Loss Control
Chia-Ping Lin,Ching-How Hsu,Likarn Wang,

A Mach-Zehnder interferometer with path-length difference controllable was used in the laser cavity to tune the transmission peaks between two output paths of the interferometer. A fiber bending scheme was used to switch the lasing wavelength taking advantage of the gain-tilt characteristics of the spectrum.

White-Light LED-based Visible Light Communications (VLC)
Chi-Wai Chow,

The improvements of power efficiency and cost reduction enable light emitting diode (LED) to be deployed in a variety of applications, such as automobile lights, traffic lights, display backlights, signboards, and both in-door and out-door lightings. LED can be switched on and off at a relatively high speed than the conventional lighting sources; hence it is possible to use LED as transmitter for visible light communication (VLC). LED based VLC has attracted more and more attentions. There is a speed race over the last decade in VLC by using different signal equalization schemes, advanced modulations and multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technique. In this talk, we will discuss different schemes to enhance the transmission capacity of VLC. We will also discuss some methods to mitigate the background optical noise in VLC. In addition, we will highlight different specific applications of VLC, such as positioning, optical beam forming, etc…
