Demands and developments of the explosive optical communication network

Since the word of "cloud computing" has been proposed by Google and IBM at 2007, the optical communication network is explosive growth. Optical communication network is divided into three major categories, traditional telecommunication network, access network, and data communication network. The application and developed trend of these networks are reviewed and summarized in this presentation.

This work demonstrates a sensitive directional bending sensor that is based on a single-mode/flat-clad/single- mode fiber (SMF/FCF/SMF) Mach–Zehnder interferometer. Based on the experimental results, sensitivities of wavelength shift in the interference spectra are strongly correlated with the directions and magnitudes of the bending.

Opto-Electronic Oscillator (OEO) is known to generate microwave with high spectral purity, and focused by many researchers in recent two decades. This paper studies the factors of affecting the stability of OEO and reviews various approaches for the stability of the OEO. Finally, our research on OEO is also introduced.

Shou-Chih Chiang Study of W-band OFDM-RoF System with Pilot-aided PAPR Reduction

We proposed pilot-aided PAPR reduction algorithm on W-band OFDM-RoF system. After 4-km fiber and 2-m wireless transmission, the 32-QAM OFDM signal has 5.3% data-rate improvement under FEC limit (BER= 3.8x10- 3).

A terahertz photonic crystal, constructed by periodically arranging metallic rods in a rectangular array, is experimentally demonstrated to guide, capture, and confine terahertz photon according to the designed air-space and the line-defect of an array.
