Design and Fabrication of a Fiber Plantar Pressure Sensor
Hsi-Shan Huang,Tung-Yi Kuo,Tsair-Chun Liang,Jhe-Jhun Lin,
Design and fabrication of a plantar pressure sensor based on fiber Bragg gratings are reported in this study. The foot length can be separated into three parts in proportion: forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot. In this work, three parts measure six areas. Experimental results show that this system is feasible and has stable performance in measurement.

Coupling Characteristics of High-Q Elliptical Microresonator on LiNbO3
Tzyy-Jiann Wang,Po-Ting Chen,Hung-Ye Chen,Huan Nu,
High-Q elliptical microresonators on LiNbO3 are fabricated and its coupling characteristics are studied. The coupling position of the tapered fiber determines the coupling characteristics and the transmission spectrum. Strong coupling occurs at the position with the smallest curvature radius due to longer extension of evanescent field. The measured maximum intrinsic and external Q factors are 2.4×104 and 1.1×105.

The All-Optical Flip-Flop based on Multimode Interference Waveguide
Jui-Hong Hsu,Yaw-Dong Wu,Hsiu-Chuan Huang,
In this paper, we propose an all-optical flip-flop based on the MMI PCW. Through shifting the boundary waveguide of the control ports, we can make outgoing field propagate in output waveguide or not. The intensity profiles show snapshots optioned at different times. This present result demonstrates that RS flip-flop operation is possible by using double different waveguide’s width and a MMI coupler waveguide in a PCs platform. Note that if we have an RS flip-flop, we can realize various much complex logic processing based on it.

Negative dispersion optical waveguide structure
Jia-Hao Liu,Chii-Chang Chen,
Abstract - This paper studies the dispersion relation of one-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide structure. Periodically arranged on both sides of the waveguide structure by a dielectric material (cladding), an intermediate layer sandwiched between the defect (core) formed. We use the plane wave expansion method to calculate the group velocity of the waveguide structure with different wavelengths to obtain a dispersion relation of the waveguide structures of different wavelengths.

Metal-Insulator-Metal Band-stop plasmonic filter based on nonlinear nanodisk resonator waveguide structure
Guan-yu Jhan,Yaw-Dong Wu,
In this article, we proposed a band-stop plasmonic filters based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) nonlinear nanodisk resonators. The band-stop filter is made up of an MIM waveguide coupled to nonlinear nanodisk resonators. The band-stop of the proposed plasmonic waveguide structure can be easily manipulated by adjusting the geometrical parameters and coupled-aperture width of the nanodisk
resonators. The results are obtained by a 2D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. It would be a potential key component in the application of the plasmonic integrated circuits.

In this paper, a 10-Gb/s four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) optical receiver circuit is designed in 0.18-μm CMOS technology. The bandwidth of this circuit is about 5-GHz, but its data transmission rate can be 10-Gb/s. Using lower bandwidth devices, the circuit can be still operated at high data rate.

Analyzing the three-layer metamaterial waveguide with the nonlinear DPS cladding
Ming-Hsiung Cheng,Yaw-Dong Wu,
In this paper, we propose a method to explore the electric field distribution of the three-layer metamaterial waveguide with nonlinear DPS cladding. The propagation characteristics of the transverse electric (TE) waves are investigated analytically and
numerically in this structure . The numerical results show that the
electric field distributions are peculiar at the boundary between the metamaterial and the nonlinear DPS medium.

Jin Jei Wu,Her-Lih Chiueh,Yao-Huang Kao,Tzong-Jer Yang,
A novel kind of spoof surface plasmon polaritons is investigated. Numerical and experimental results show that by introducing the open slot on the metallic blocks, there will appear additional spoof SPPs mode in the band gap of metallic solid blocks. The addition mode can generate a frequency steering pencil-like radiation with a dispersion curve passing entering the radiation region.

In this paper, a nano-scale wavelength-selective optical filters is based on metal-insulator-metal square ring with a split-ring core (SRC). These resonant modes are highly adjustable, via the gap size of the split-ring core, over a range of hundreds of nanometers. The resonator has the potential to be utilized effectively in integrated nano-scale optical switches and tunable filters.

All fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer using Vertical-Alignment Liquid Crystal
Jia Fen Lin,Yin Lin,Bo-Yan Ho,Shug-June Hwang,
An all-in fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) is proposed by automatically fusion splicing a short section of hollow core fiber (HOF) to the end of a single-mode fiber (SMF) and sandwiching a section of HOF in two section of SMF. Due to the liquid crystal (LC) material has high electric fields sensitivity, a novel in-line MZI formed by a vertical alignment (VA) LCs-filled HOF is demonstrated as a voltage sensor. The voltage induced wavelength shifts of the interference fringes are experimentally monitored. The experimental results show that the wavelength-voltage sensitivity is ~0.0225 nm/V, the resonant wavelength blue shift 9 nm was achieved by the voltage from 0V to 400V.

In this work, the fabrication method of CMOS-compatible low-loss Si waveguiding structures by KrF Excimer laser reformation system is studied. The study solves the on-chip integration issues between electronics and photonics, as well as reduces the propagation loss for on-chip optical interconnect applications. Under proper laser treatment, the propagation losses are reduced from 4.2 ± 0.2dB/cm to 2 ± 0.2 dB/cm.
