125-Gbit/s High Spectral Efficient All-Optical OFDM System

We demonstrate experimentally a 125-Gbit/s high spectral-efficient all-optical orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) system with spectral-efficiency of > 0.83 bit/s/Hz. 20-km fiber transmission is demonstrated, showing it is suitable for future 100 Gbit/s Ethernet (100 GbE).

The effects on second harmonic distortion, third
harmonic distortion and the system performance of a radio over
fiber system in a directly modulated laser subject to external
optical injection are investigated experimentally. Under optical
injection locking, the SHD is suppressed by 5-8 dB and by 8-11
dB for THD. The EVM measurements show the improvement in
system performance through optical injection locking.

A 20km/60Gbps two-way passive optical network (PON) based on two-stage injection-locked 1.55-μm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) transmitters is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. To be the first one of employing two-stage injection-locked 1.55-μm VCSELs transmitters, brilliant bit error rate (BER) performance and clear eye diagram are achieved for 20km/60Gbps two-way PON application.

The in-situ data erasing in the slave colorless laser diode under 10-Gbit/s down-stream reusing operation is demonstrated for error-free transmission over 25-km fiber propagation at a receiving sensitivity of -9 dBm for DWDM-PON application.

SOI-Based 3-D Splitting Waveguide for On-Chip Optical Interconnect

A 3-D splitting waveguide using 45 degree micro-reflector is experimentally demonstrated for the on-chip optical interconnect. Such unique optical waveguide perform the vertical transition path and the 1-by-m optical routers. The splitting power ratio can be adjusted from 4.81:1 to 1.18:1.

45 degree Fiber Mirrors for Light Coupling of Passive-aligned High-speed Optical Transceivers

45 degree fiber mirror was proposed for light coupling with VCSEL and PD. Passive alignment between the fiber mirror and the VCSEL/PD was achieved with total coupling losses of less than 5dB. In addition, the structure is proven to be useful in high-speed transmission interface by measuring the eye diagram.
