A fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot interferometer based on cascading dual hollow core fibers (HCF) is proposed for simultaneously measuring the thermo-optic coefficient (TOC) and refractive index (RI) of liquids. The TOCs and RI of the ethanol and deionized water (DIW) have been effectively and accurately determined by using the proposed sensor.

Zu-Kai Weng Linewidth Suppressed Dual-Wavelength Colorless Laser Diode for Optical 64-QAM OFDM

A dual-wavelength injection-locked colorless laser diode with a suppressed linewidth of 180 kHz for the beating millimeter-wave carrier is demonstrated to directly modulate the 64-QAM OFDM data for 24 Gbit/s transmission over 25-km SMF with a BER of 1.6E-4 at a receiving power sensitivity of -3 dBm.

Chih-Ying Chen Comparison of the photonic microwave generation using optically injected quantum-dot and quantum-well semiconductor lasers

The single-sideband (SSB) characteristic of photonic microwave signals generated with optically injected quantum-dot (QD) and quantum-well (QW) distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers is investigated and compared. Under the condition of optimal microwave power, the sideband rejection ratio (SRR) of the QD laser is 15 dB higher than the QW laser in oscillation frequencies ranging from 6 GHz to 22 GHz.

Bo-Ji Huang Design and optical characterization of Si1-xGex single-mode waveguide on SiO2 coated Si substrate

Parametric detuning synthesis and optical characterization of nonstoichiometric Si1-xGex are demonstrated to assist design and fabrication of single-mode nano-scale SiGe waveguide on SiO2/Si substrate. Reducing the Si/Ge ratio from 1.18 to 0.82 enlarges the refractive index from 3.48 to 3.85 helps to implement a 300-nm-large absorption-free waveguide at n=3.53.

We have proposed and experimentally demonstrated an all-optical modulation format conversion from ASK and QPSK to 8-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (8QAM) by using FWM effect in HNLF. A RZ-8QAM signal with optical signal-to-noise ratio larger than 30 dB and bit-error rate lower than 10−5 is successfully obtained.

Jian-Hua Chen 100 Gbps MIMO Visible Laser Light Communication Systems

A 100-Gbps multiple-input-multiple-output visible laser light communication system employing vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers with 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM)-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulating signals is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A system of 16-QAM-OFDM channels over 5-km free-space links with a total data rate of 100 Gbps is successfully achieved.
